DHCP
A protocol for automatically assigning IP, gateway, and DNS settings
Core Idea
DHCP automatically hands out an IP address, default gateway, and DNS server settings when a device joins the network. That means new machines can communicate immediately without manual per-device configuration.
Why It Matters Here
Mathbong uses DHCP when explaining OPNsense internal networks, VLAN segmentation, and common gateway mistakes. It shows how network policy reaches real devices in practice.
