Snapshot
A point-in-time capture for fast rollback inside a virtual environment
Core Idea
A snapshot captures the state of a VM or container at one point in time so you can roll back quickly if something goes wrong. It is especially useful before experiments, upgrades, or risky configuration changes.
The key distinction is that a snapshot is not the same thing as a backup. Snapshots are usually strong for fast rollback on the same storage, but they do not protect you from disk loss or full host failure by themselves.
Why It Matters Here
Mathbong uses snapshots throughout the Proxmox series to teach safe experimentation, rollback habits, and the difference between convenience recovery and real backup planning.
